Gan means "to stop." It symbolizes a mountain. We should stop when we should and must go forward when me must; moving and stopping should match with time in order to acheive things. A mountain never moves. Man must learn the stability of a mountain. We should not act in a hasty manner. This principle is well adapted to Taekwondo. Though fast actions seem fine, we should know where and when to stop. The reason why the Beomseogi is included here is that it enables us to move freely"

It was attempted in a clearly-defined local area with identifiable community activity, a recent history of community involvement, and in partnership with an established community organisation with access to premises. The
project team had been working there for several months and had established recognition and trust. The project ideas, while innovative and challenging, were introduced in flexible and practically-sensitive ways. And yet the project did not succeed"

Through this project, you will be working in close collaboration with both your professors and/or peers to design a series of classrooms in the virtual realm.
Furthermore, you and your fellow contributors will be awarded at total of $250,000 Linden dollars, distributed based on a unique ‘Community Assessment’ method. A method, whereby members of the community collectively determine the approximate percentage of credit each contributor deserves.

- Fantastic presentation on visualisation and design - To change towards a more sustainable development could means to make decisions not only with a systemic approach, but also to be able to decide in the right time: the density. It seems that, when the discipline of Design integrate a systemic approach with the competences of designers in visualization, it can cope with dense situations, providing effective artefacts – diagrams - to improve the decision process and making profit from the richness of complexity

- Introducing Project Socialsite
- Excellent presentation explaining the web, rationale behind social features/functions that we might want to enable with web pages and services and options for socialgraphs etc. In discussions at Surrey and other places I have worked, re wikis, social networks etc, people have mentioned things along the lines of - we don't know what we know, how can we find out what we know and how do we know if it going to be of any use - we don't have time to create a whole new set of content and we don't want to if it already exists in some other electronic format, but we like the idea of not being asked the same questions over and over again, we like the idea of being able to move away from silo interest areas - even the terminology can mean lots of different things, can visualisation make it easier for us and save us time because rightly or wrongly we don't think we have any going spare.....

Summary
This 140-page guide published by the World Bank is designed for African policymakers, education planners, and pedagogical specialists who may be considering the feasibility of using interactive radio instruction (IRI) in their education systems. According to the World Bank, studies of the IRI experience in more than two dozen countries during the past 25 years have shown that the use of IRI has led to significant and consistent improvements in school achievement and has helped overcome equity gaps between urban and rural children and between boys and girls. Because IRI can be broadcast to large audiences across a country, the cost per student is often low in comparison with other options for improving the quality of instruction.

By reading brain waves such as α and β waves, the system can roughly measure the degrees of brain's relaxation and concentration, NeuroSky said. The data of brain waves can be displayed on the screen of a mobile phone by using a visualizer or can be used to control the movement of a video game character."

- cityofsound: The Adaptive City
- "With a wider set of data, fed back in imaginative, multi-sensory and distributed fashion, what stories of the city might emerge and how might they affect the way the city sees itself and thus behaves? And how might citizens use this data, how might they add their own feeds, weave together their own filtered aggregations of everyday data? Could it provide a platform through which citizens learn about the city, and are then able to better build the city?
If so, the city becomes shaped by side-effects. Each action produces a torrent of metadata describing that action, which can be aggregated and combined with other data in order to provide rich representations of city life. The individual informs the model, and thus development, through their behaviour. Paths through parks emerge where people walk, rather than the other way round. This is subconscious collective adaptation." I don't know if this can happen - can technologies e.g. tags really 'tag' human movement / mobility precisely?

- Don't know if you already involved / can pass onto to anyone you know. UNICEF is looking for feedback about where and in what situations the BEE could best be employed.
The BEE is not intended to replace the long-standing UNICEF standard educational response, but rather to supplement the learning environment and expand the opportunities for access to information of children and communities whether in post-emergency or remote settings. After rounds of testing, it remains to be seen how the BEE will fit in with current UNICEF projects, as well as allowing UNICEF's Division of Communication to expand into previously uncharted areas.

- A report by the Palestine Strategy Study Group, August 2008
- "This document contains views shared in a number of workshops and other
informal meetings between a group of Palestinians from inside and outside
the Occupied Territory. Convened by the Oxford
Research Group and a European Union grant.
The opinions expressed in this report do not reflect the perspective of any
single political faction, just the deep concern the participants
have about Palestine and its just cause. The primary audience is Palestinian. The purpose
of the report is to articulate a common platform that will unite fellow
Palestinians in order to strengthen the effectiveness of our unified voice. The
aim is to support national leaders in their efforts to formulate an agreed
national programme with clear goals and tools for implementation. A
major function of the report is to promote the still relatively little known
Palestinian discourse as the dominant discourse, a further important aim is to
minimise misunderstanding or misrepresentation of it."

- Open Web foundation presentation .. Who polices the Open Web?

(IMO shared knowledge and standards will hopefully produce better and more reliable apps but does joining up open 'dots' and communities help or impede open innovation, does it 'fit' culturally with all the different communities and individual developers? I don't know enough about the lite standards Ajit is referring to, I have difficulty trying to understand how you can have one open anything.)
