Great streaming into Second Life and social networking games on mobile devices

Was able to pop into Second life and attend a couple of sessions run by the Serious Games Institute on uses of technology in heritage and tourism. Was so impressed by the quality of the video, slides and audio streaming from all 3 screens - its better than I have experienced elsewhere in Second Life (but I have not got that much SL experience).

The sessions were excellent too, a great one from Ron Edwards of Ambient Performance where he did an amazing demo showing virtual objects - I think it was via a RFID tag on something on the floor but wasn’t completely sure, and explaining many ways that you can make museums more interactive for visitors moving around by use of a mobile device. Also explained about a new venture Creative Encounters game and how you could use a mobile device when attending conferences, for social networking by finding information on your device using profile details that have been entered and an in-house messaging system. Imagine if you added in GPS and could locate them - either suppliers (anyone who has spent a long time walking around all of BETT will know how nice this could be) or colleagues with similar interests. I don’t know if this is already a feature.

The work coming out of the SGI is really innovative - I think the sessions from today will be streamed via this link soon

I still cannot get second life on my new MacBook. I hear it is because of a conflict with Leopard and SL. Grrrr…

    Hi,

I have asked around - some people have said they are running 10.5.2 and do not experience any problems, others have found they have crashed. A colleague has suggested the following:

There have been a whole series of reported problems with the MacBook Pro graphic cards and Second Life. The latest Mac system updates (including
firmware) combined with the newest client viewers should now all work.
Previously there were some workarounds posted see:

    Hope this helps,
