Tech Review reports today of a new technology that could be used in older mobile phones to give them some of the facilities and applications that newer phones have.
Skyward Mobile technology claim that their APX technology will allow them to create applications - one time for multiple devices including devices which are currently as much as eight years old.
It is able to compensate for all the differences in device sizes, screens, memory, and other differences, ensuring compatibility between network and device and greatly reduces the time to market or the need to outsource application development as has previously been the case.
Imagine with all the billions of previously owned mobile handsets, that you could make them work as smart phones, particularly if you have budget restrictions for developing mobile learning - the possibilities are very exciting.

Apparently they have a 95 million audience answering questions on the current format, it is brilliant, once I needed to get a coach from Istanbul out somewhere - I wanted to know if metro went to the coach station. Instead of spending time crawling around the web or calling everything and everywhere, I asked and within 10 minutes had a very friendly reply (amongst the usual idiotic and sometimes funny ones) saying hello, I live in istanbul and here’s the timetable.
Works for me ! So pleased they are going mobile with it - who needs a mobile wiki if you’ve got mobile ‘ask anyone’ - that way you usually get a mix of experts, rubbish and the bizarre which scores highly on the entertainment side too ![]()
