Very nice analogies used in this excellent PDF from Joseph Francis and BP Trends. Much more interesting thinking about hamburgers than looking at rows of geometric shapes in charts….

This interview with Timo Soininen, CEO of Sulake who owns the Habbo Hotel.
He records 6.5 million monthly unique visitors with 80 million player accounts since they started seven years ago. The key to attracting brands was not in the form of animated banner graphics but instead to involve them as a topic of discussion within a community, if this seems to have a positive effect, the company can then use its brand to do things like sponsoring community activities or games in the virtual world.
Another thing that is different about Habbo is more simplified graphics - the rationale behind this is to keep the ideas inside the users own head, allowing them to maintain their own illusion.
Timo mentions that they are working on a mobile product but not releasing as yet due to expensive costs for younger users. Has recently launched a mobile virtual world which has 110 000 registered users to date.
There’s some fun stuff in Habbo itself, they seem to have a good idea of what one of their key target audiences wants to do in there e.g. you can make your own movie and enter a HabboWood competition which is a great way of adding fun interaction into a fairly basic graphic environment.
